About JFI / Our Affiliates / International Affiliates

The American Taekwondo Association (ATA) is the premier North American organization dedicated to the martial arts discipline of taekwondo.  It is also the founding organization of other international affiliates that include the World Traditional Taekwondo Union (WTTU) and the Songahm Taekwondo Federation (STF).  Worldwide, the ATA organizations have over 1,500 independently owned and operated licensed schools and clubs.   Over 1,000,000 students have registered since the ATA’s inception in 1969.

Mrs. Sun C. Lee, wife of the late Eternal Grand Master H. U. Lee and the ATA’s Chairman of the Board, continues the legacy of her husband by helping the youth of Songahm Taekwondo through her philanthropic efforts and devotion through the ATA and the H. U. Lee Foundation.  The H. U. Lee Foundation is a non-profit organization established in 1992 by the American Taekwondo Association in order to perpetuate and honor the memory of its founder, Eternal Grand Master H. U. Lee and his vision of making children’s dreams possible.  Its purpose is to allocate scholarships to recipients for post secondary education; thereby providing education and leadership development opportunities to students who exemplify qualities of perseverance, dedication and the courage to overcome great odds.

Since the first class was taught many years ago, the focus of the ATA program has remained the same: to provide students of all ages the highest quality martial arts instruction available in a safe and positive learning environment.  ATA instructors combine excellent student to instructor ratios and state of the art training facilities.  This has helped establish ATA schools and clubs as leaders in the martial arts industry.  Each instructor is a graduate of an instructor program that represents more than thirty years of research and development.  He or she will stay with their students every step of the way to help them reach their individual goals (and maybe reach some new goals never before thought possible).

The Jason Foundation, Inc. (JFI) came to the ATA with an opportunity to become a leader in making a difference in our young peoples’ lives.  JFI invited the ATA to become the first International Ambassador of their programs of youth suicide prevention.  ATA was asked to assume this role because young people look up to coaches, instructors and teachers as role models and will go to them when they need help, especially in ATA, because we are a family.   ATA’s affiliation with JFI continues their legacy as one of the most innovative and effective organizations in the martial arts worldwide.  The Jason Foundation hopes that this affiliation will encourage other world organizations to become JFI ambassadors.

The Jason Foundation believes that by working together we can save lives and the American Taekwondo Association believes in changing individuals’ lives.   Together, JFI and ATA have created a partnership that will benefit and impact individuals and families for the better.  As an International Ambassador, the ATA will help make the world aware and support JFI’s efforts to prevent youth suicide.
