Introduction

Youth Suicide is the third leading cause of death for our youth nationwide taking more than 5,200 young lives each year. Youth suicide is one of the most preventable causes of death for our young people. The Jason Foundation, Incorporated (JFI) mission is dedicated to the prevention of the “Silent Epidemic” of Youth Suicide through educational awareness programs for young people, educators, parents and community groups. JFI wants to educate any and all persons who want to fight this “Silent Epidemic”.

The Jason Foundation understands that a student's success in school is based directly on how they perform. JFI further knows that if a student is concerned about suicidal ideation in themselves or their friends, they may not be able to focus on their schoolwork. Understanding this, we have developed an informational section on youth suicide for students and parents. The foundation recognizes that some parents/students may, at some point, have questions about youth suicide and need a resource for information.

Suicide is preventable . We do not have to accept it as anyone's fate. Education is one key to preventing suicide. Learning who is at risk, what signs to look for, and how to talk to at-risk individuals brings us one step closer to saving lives.
