In 1962, Mr. Sam Walton opened the first Wal-Mart store in America located in Rogers, Arkansas. Today, there are over 4,000 Wal-Marts / Sams Clubs across the nation with over 1.8 million associates.

In 2002, Wal-Mart received national recognition as the #1 ranked company in the listing of the Fortune 500. This was followed in 2003 by being named by Fortune Magazine as the “Most Admired” company in America.

Wal-Mart continued to show its philosophy of giving back to the community as well as its concern for the well-being of our nation’s youth as it announced October 16, 2004 its affiliation with The Jason Foundation, Inc. – a non-profit organization who is a leader in youth suicide awareness and prevention. – as JFI’s National Corporate Affiliate.

This announcement marked the second organization (Children’s Miracle Network being the first) that Wal-Mart has put its name, company, and associates behind their efforts.

Wal-Mart is working with The Jason Foundation to provide its services and programs for its associates and the communities where they live.
